Lebanon Explosion
The sun sets today with so much sadness in our beloved Lebanon. An explosion that was felt to the far north and south of our country and beyond. We are all shocked by the massive explosions that occurred in the port of Beirut on August 4, 2020. The extent of the damage is devastating. The explosion sent shock waves across the city and caused great damage even in the outskirts of the capital. People screamed, ran and bled. Balconies were blown off buildings. Glass in high-rise buildings shattered and fell onto the street. Many apartments were completely destroyed. The destruction and ruins are enormous. Many people were seen lying injured on the ground, and hospitals, announcing that they are completely overloaded, immediately called for blood donations.
The death toll from the massive explosion had reached 135, there were about 5,000 injured and over 300,000 people have been left homeless. Many people are still missing to this day. People are asking for their relatives in the emergency room, and it is difficult to search at night because there is no electricity. We are facing a real disaster and need time to assess the extent of the damage.
People in Lebanon are being asked to stay indoors and close their windows. People on the streets are asked to wear masks due to reports of toxic gases.
People in Lebanon have suffered from a severe financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic. The economic crisis is putting many people at risk. It has drowned many people below the poverty line. How much more can our country leave behind so that we can pass it on to our children?
Please join us in prayer for those who have died for those who have been injured, lost their homes or jobs, for those who have lost loved ones… It is extremely heartbreaking, a heartbreak the size of an entire country.
